Why We Are Different

How we work with clients

Our clients’ interests are paramount and that objective is supported by all aspects of business organisation

  • In financial services, agents who are experts and insiders have tended to use their ’information advantage’ to take advantage of customers, so seeking out greater expertise has not necessarily brought greater rewards for customers; we seek to turn our expertise into business value exclusively by sharing it with clients in an open and collaborative way, trusting that to be properly valued by them
  • Though we mainly manage assets on a discretionary basis, we expect clients to take ownership of the high-level planning and policy choices that will be the largest determinant of their long-term outcomes
  • To encourage and support collaboration and ownership, we clearly express clients’ options and give them complete and impartial information and explanation
  • The goal planning process, which is highly quantified and uses computer-based modelling, is designed to give us minimal control over where planning leads – it should lead logically wherever the goal outcomes that clients define take it
  • Our fee charging approach is designed to ensure we have no economic interest in where planning leads – we are financially indifferent to our clients choices about risk exposures, saving versus consumption or gifting
  • We are economically independent and depend entirely on fees from clients
